I was talking about a fascination with doors and have managed to do something with an image I took around a year ago when we visited Lincolnshire Castle. I was going to say that this door is attached to the old prison but I can’t actually remember whether this is right or not. Do you know?

I have just tried the HDR (high dynamic range) technique. It’s one of those techniques where I haven’t been all the keen on but saying that there are some really nice photos out there that really look good!

I have found that it works or it doesn’t and that is all down to the type of photo, and also whether the colours are to over the top and makes the photo look tacky.

I went for the plunge and gave it a go. I have 3 photos taken of a stained glass window in Lincolnshire Cathedral and have previously put them together a few years ago when I took it by cutting part of the image out and placing on another exposure of the photo – and thought considering I did a good job.

However I found some free HDR software on the web called “Qtpfsgui”, not sure how you pronounce it but its free!

So I basically used the 3 images I had of the stain glass window at different exposures and created the HDR image from them. The finished result on my first attempt didn’t look bad considering it was my first go and I had to line the images together because I took them with out a tripod and bear in mind I hadn’t taken these photos with HDR in mind, come to think of it I had never heard of HDR!

The finished image looks soft and the colours look nice and bold but not over the top! Take a look and let me know what you think…

I have this fascination with taking pictures of doors! Not sure why…but the only thing I can think off is because of where they could lead you or whats happening behind it!

What started me off was when I took a picture of a door which is on the rear / side of a church in Nettleham village in Lincolnshire – it drew me into taking the picture and the was really pleased with the end result. So since then I have taken pictures, but not necessarily done anything with the pictures and published to the site. I have just re-published the Nettleham Church door picture because the previous version was too small.

I have finally started to upload photos taken back in July this year of the Waddington Airshow. It’s taken me longer than I thought due to the amount of photos I had taken (over 1100) and finally processessing them and narrowing them down to a couple of hundred.

Again the Red Arrows did their display and all others couldn’t beat their quality…don’t get me wrong the other displays were fantastic and don’t know how they do it – missing each other so closely!

Click on the image to take you to the main gallery and from there you can see them, let me know what you think!…

I have over the weekend been trying to get photos sorted from the Waddington Airshow and I am getting there but got loads to get through.

I have even got a load of photos I want to put up on my gallery but just need to get the time to do them. So keep your eyes open. In the meantime here is a photo from of a garden table…

This was taken with my macro lens and to get the final image I duplicated the layer and changed one to black and white and changed the blending mode to “overlay” which gave it this effect.

Hope you like what I did. Keep an eye out for the Waddington Airshow photos.

I was in the back garden of my parents yesterday and decided while it was a lovely day I thought I would put my macro lens on and see what I could find.

I managed to find a few things to snap at but because it was heading for the evening a lot of insects were heading home but still got a few shots…

As you can see from this shot I caught a bee searching for honey on a Buddlia. You can see that he has been successful in collecting pollen that day with it all on his legs.

I also found a spider waiting patiently on its web in the greenhouse, not sure how long it had been there but I think I would have been bored!

I wonder if the spider is still waiting? I managed to find a Hoverfly resting on a leaf taking in all the sun…

And for the last image I managed to get a photo of a flower just sitting there ready to be taken. I thought I would duplicate the layer and create a gaussian blur then blend them together with overlay create this effect.
